double-week post again. this past week ended too quickly for me to (bother) getting around to posting. hooray for thanksgiving weekend! its officially the start of the holiday season, and im a happy person.
(LAST) SATURDAY
miller was down last week for a visit, and we met up with di and went for some shabu shabu. the weather was a wee chillier than the last time i went for shabu shabu, but not nearly cold enough to rightly appreciate the stomach-warming benefits of hot pot. we migrated to 10 degrees after that for some wine before heading up to leos place for a visit (he broke his leg). we hung out there for a while, then rounded out the nite with some bee-yer at petes tavern. i cant remember the rest of that particular weekend, so we'll just assume i did nothing.
WEDNESDAY
was it wednesday? yea...i think it was wednesday. m took her sis to a bday dinner wednesday nite, and we all met up at ñ for drinks afterwards. technically they were at dinner, and i was left to entertain myself with sangria and tapas til they showed up. minks friend yada was there too, so we shot the breeze til everybody else showed up. bonus for the nite...mike meyers was having a drink too while we were there. yea baby!
THANKSGIVING
headed home to jersey thursday evening for the annual tsai family thanksgiving. the second i walked in the door, my sisters already huddled in front of the television watching her newly acquired wedding dvd, replete with slow walks, awkward ballads, and 10 varieties of cheese. yeeha.
dinner-wise, every years like a mystery. will it be duck? lobster? or maybe even turkey for once. the last turkey we had kind of tasted like shit. chinese cuisine just doesnt seem able to accomodate for turkey. this year however we had roasted duck and hot pot...word! i cant remember the last time we had hot pot as a family, so that was a nice surprise. we all got stuffed, milled around after dinner, then i split for home.
SATTY CINEMA
me and fish were gonna check out the fountain satty nite, but before then, i headed out to do a bit of christmas shopping. not presents per se, but christmas decorations. i think its been a while since we've had some right nice christmas-y decorations in our apartment. so i went out and got myself a christmas tree and accoutrements. i dropped off the stuff at my apartment and headed back out to meet fishy. we caught the fountain at the loews e-walk on 42nd. times square during the holidays is a scary sight...fucking frightening. remind me to just all around avoid that area from now til january. anyway, the movies a trip. gorgeous to watch, deeply moving, and not as hard to follow as some would lead you to believe (the narrative weaves back and forth between the 3 timelines, but never in a whatthefuck way). alot of it can be confusing, if not generally ambiguous, but the movie was pretty trippy and definitely worth watching.
the last time we caught food after a movie, we kinda rushed it. so since it was still a satty (woo long weekends), we strolled over to kun jip and took our time with a massive korean dinner. yum yum.
coincidentally, satty nite was also the nite of our high school reunion. and we in the end decided not to go. nards, too bad eh. on the bright side, theyve already posted up pics from the gathering for everybody to see. and the rule of thumb (and this probably applies to anybody who went to high school in america) seems to be that everybody is either 1. fatter, or 2. alot fatter. 75% of the guys are beasts now, and the girls either kept their freshman 15, slapped on an extra sophomore 50 for good measure, or were pregant, which then technically makes them fat anyway. bonus points for those who had receding hair lines. not that they can help that...blame their mothers. but i just found it oddly funny to see former jocks, bullies, etc looking like your high school science teacher. brilliant. anyhoo, another 10 years til the 20th year anniversary. plenty of time to conquer the world and enslave all beneath my oppressive thumb. good bragging material for the next round.
