halloween weekend

k, my soup is scalding hot. i just dropped some crackers in and they disintegrated. made a little puff of smoke and everything. so word...halloween, woot! or something. to be honest, im not much of a halloween fan. when people ask, i just say something about childhood and whipping canes.

not to state the obvious, but its been pretty quiet lately, so posts wont be getting any more plentiful anytime soon. *shrug* another quiet weekend, but at least it was a quiet weekend with super-nice weather out. friday nite was din with m and crew at some malaysian restaurant on doyers. yea, cant really remember the name. it was a nice change-up from the usual nyonya's, and it was pretty good too. we spent the rest of the nite at ñ (and yes m, pronounced "en-yay"...not "enya". enya is an irish singer who can implode peoples brains with her voice)...with mink, i4 and crew, etc drinking sangria all nite long. actually, probably too much sangria (5? 6? pitchers) because i was stuck in bed with a headache the next morning...yar. saturday was spent vegetating in the apartment, and sunday i headed out to stroll around in the ridiculously nice weather. i even swung by facial index and ordered a new set of holy-shit-expensive glasses. theyre swishy tho, and should be ready by tomorrow. word.

shoot, forgot my cam. ill tack on a pretty picture later then...

potter and underworld

GOBLET OF FIRE
first review of harry potter and the goblet of fire...yay! this particular viewer was pretty meticulous with his breakdown of the movie...but overall liked it and stated to be the best of the 4 potter movies. word.

UNDERWORLD
and this ones unexpected (or forgotten). a new trailer for underworld evolution. i liked and hated the first underworld. coo ideas and designs, shitty plot, characters, acting, etc etc. theres like a world of coo trapped underneath the surface, and hey...maybe the sequel will bring it up. who knows...at least bill nighys still in the sequel (even tho he died in the first one).

white supremist kids

hello evolution...youre not working motherfucker! theres still plenty of speedbumps across the world, and theyre still procreating. i read this brief article in am new york this morning on the subway about these olsen twin-like girls who are all cute and young and happy and blonde...and who also happen to be white supremists. i was like...holy shit, what the fuck? so i found an abc news article on it to see what all the shits about. lamb and lynx (no seriously) gaede are 13 year-old twins from california who sing about white nationalism and racial purity as the duo prussian blue.

quote the prepubescent brats..."we're proud of being white, we want to keep being white," said lynx. "we want our people to stay white … we don't want to just be, you know, a big muddle. we just want to preserve our race."

wow. wow. what the fuck...wow. i suppose i shouldnt be so ignorant and realize theres still plenty of stupidity to blanket the world, but seeing it presented like this and from a pair of brats that young still makes me shudder. besides, as the article pointed out, its really their parents spewing the crap and the 2 brats are just their convenient mouthpieces. still disturbing nonetheless. as a funny aside, when i grabbed the accompanying image from the abc site, the image file was labeled "abc_ptl_nazitwins2_051019_t.jpg". bwahahaha...

NARNIA
oh right...two coo movie bits. the first is a new narnia trailer from moviefone. lotsa new things to see, etc. but im not sure if its just me...but im still not overly excited about anything i see. maybe if id read the book, id be more excited. or maybe not...who knows. nothings setting my shorts on fire.

POTTER
two new things for potter tho...and these are pretty damn coo. the first is a uk tv spot thats essentially all new footage. word. and the second is a clip from the movie (via extra) thats pretty fucking funny. mad -eye moody vs. malfoy. less than a month to go...yar!

soktoberfest and not much else

i dont think ive ever wanted to do nothing as much as i did this weekend. it was just a combination of being pooped and under the weather, and the coincidentally crappy weather that contributed to being pooped. the only time i ever left my apartment was for tiens soktoberfest '05 saturday nite...word. socks + beer + bratwurst = something probably ungodly...but in this case just a party and good beer. it was still shitty out that night, and the G train was being particularly uncooperative, but i hadnt seen tien in a while and shannan since she moved back to nyc. i spent the rest of the weekend essentially in the same position either on my stool in front of the computer, or on my bed dual-wielding two remotes. word.

yar! this is a pretty crappy way to start a friday. i was on the bus this morning headed down to the delancey F stop when i get a call from anna (shes working in dumbo now...word!) saying that the F line was shittered. rock. so i get off at the houston st stop instead and walk towards the 2nd ave stop, hoping maybe the V was still kickin'. its not. so im standing on houston brainstorming crazy schemes to cross the river. since i didnt have any rubber bands, paper clips, or styrofoam cups, i couldnt macgyver myself a hovercraft. so i bused over to the w4th st stop instead to see if i could catch the ACE. i get there, and not only is the entrance barricaded and there are police waving people away, but theres a big plume of smoke coming out of the ground a few blocks north. ok...thats not cool. by this time, im seriously considering just going home to grab my bike, since everybody and their sisters waving down any and all cabs. i start making my way back towards e.vil when i finally spot a cab pulled over. i run like a crazy mofo at it and snag it as the womans stepping out of the cab...woot! what a crappy friday morning.

oh, and i dreamt i grew a beard last nite. what. the. fuck.

eek! ave C was hilighted in a ny times travel spot feature. run for the hills! jk...ave C is already packed these days. zum schneiders + sunburnt cow equals biiiig crowds of people. and besides, who am i to talk? im a shitty neighbor...i dont hit up the local dives as much as i should. but hey, my apartment buildings in the pic! that building corner on the left...yea, thats my building.

movie stuff...yawn

yergh...wednesday flyby. its not that i have no drive to post semi-regularly these days. its just that the weekdays for the most part lately have been chill and relaxing. and besides...the weekdays used to be filled with random movie news, which sad to say, there is little to be bothered mentioning. there were 2 bits i was going mention, but they turned out to be poot. theres supposedly a "teaser" for the upcoming brett ratner x3 up on their site. but its nothing...a quick video of alkali lake and some cheesy graphics. oooh, thrilling. my faith in brett ratner at the helm of x3 has been restored. theres also a review up on aicn for sam mendes jarhead which is kinda coo, but the review wasnt overly enthusiastic (even tho he liked the movie). ho hum.

mmm...yakult

i wonder if its considered genocide everytime i drink a yakult and ingest 8 billion live lactobacillus casei strain shirota? goddamn its good stuff.

dumbo arts and berfdays

holy shit it stopped raining finally. i was almost finished with my mini-ark i made from popsicle sticks and elmers glue...damn shame.

DUMBO ARTS
friday was the start of the dumbo arts festival, and there were alot of gallery openings and partys friday nite, so my studio hit up superfine for some liquoring before we headed out. we dropped by my friend janelles open studio in 45 main first to shmooze on wine and cheese. i split from my coworkers afterwards to check out some of the gallery openings at 55 main (or whatever the front street address is). some pretty coo stuff, and the place was packed with people. i was pooped out after that, so i crawled home and veg'd out.

SATTY
satty was the monthly (sometimes bi-monthly) family gathering. meet in jersey, eat at panda house...blah blah blah. i think even my parents are getting sick of this rhetoric. we need to change shit up or something. anyhoo, another reason for this particular family meeting was that my mom was headed back to taiwan in a week or so, and wanted to record a video greeting for my grandparents birthday.

"halloo der...i am your grandson whom you rarely see or visit. we dont think you understand our grade school-level mandarin, so we'll just say random things in english for shits and giggles. marsupials."

embarassing and shit...but whatever. i headed back to the city after that, marinated at home for a while, then headed out for minks bday thingy. we had pre-drinks at m's place first, then headed to the sugar bar to get our drink on. i think getting up earlier than usual (to get back to jersey) started to take its toll on me, and i got sleepy earlier than usual. blah! so i headed out when m and chris left, then slept thru to monday. more or less. word.

RANDOM LEFTOVER
im headed to barcelona! woot! cheer! tickets were finalized last week, and ill be out of the country again for new years. now to brush up on my shitty español...

what tha...a good review for doom? the guy either sniffed too much glue, or my prejudgement of the movie was undeserved. im gonna guess the reality lies somewhere in the middle. maybe the movies only half-ass and he only sniffed a glue stick...

best commute evar! rain = nice. rain - umbrella + missing bus = super fun time! i used to have a rockin' umbrella...the one from moma with the sky printed on the inside. but i lost it sometime ago and havent replaced it yet, thinking i wouldnt need one anytime soon. so i wake up this morning and get to look outside at the pouring rain...woot. i leave my apartment a little early and run to the supermarket downstairs to see if they have any umbrellas. none...fuck. as i come back onto my street, i notice my friend leaving the apt building with an umbrella, so i run up and duck underneath hers. yay! we get to ave B and theres road construction. no m8...argh! so we continue thru tompkins square where im hoping to catch the m14a on ave A. the bus pulls up, then away as i run to it. you fucking prick. so by this time i figure an umbrella would be a wise investment, grab one from a deli, then slog my way down to the F on houston in the pouring rain. by the time i get to the office, my pants are soaked up to my pockets. super duper...what a shit day. k, i think its chicken noodle time.

THURSDAY
thursday nite was some fancy-pants biche de bere fashion/lighting/architecture event going down in a libeskind-designed space in nj. it sounded coo, so you know...couldnt pass it up. met up with m and we headed over to the chelsea piers, where we were shuttled over to jersey via water taxi, then limo'd to the space. limo...word. the space was filled with various light installations, and the fashion show was some kind of weird. it was coo tho, even tho the dj sucked. mingled, wined, etc...and i pretended to be some kind of important photographer and got a nice spot to take shots from. wee!

FRIDAY
kev's headed back to cleveland (rocks!), so we all headed to his apartment to wish him off. it started pretty mellow and quiet, but then got crowded fast. people who i hadnt seen since we graduated in 2001 (some on purpose, some not) showed up...and some i didnt even know were in nyc. craziness. it was coo tho, seeing everybody again. too bad its going-away events like these that we usually get together at these days. ah well...later kev. cleveland rocks!

SATURDAY
i didnt have much planned satty, and was gonna actually marinate all day. and i did too...til around midnight when i got a call from an ooooold high school friend who happened to be in town. holy crap. i hadnt seen pete since high school, so it was definitely coo to see him after like you know...a decade. we met up at the pioneer with his friends, and just caught up with the last 10 years. hes studying to be a corporate lawyer now...motherfucking sellout. jk pete, more power to ya. the pencils on your desk will be worth more than me.

SUNDAY
yea, must be a busy weekend if i even write about sunday. met up with jess and i4 in the afternoon to swing by one of the open house new york sites in e.vil, the new york city marble graveyard on 2nd and 1st. yea, thats street, followed by ave. apparently there are a series of crypts underneath the entire lot, and that the marble plaques just mark whos in that general vicinity. super. *shiver* we then crossed the street to the russian orthodox church. me and churches...we dont fly. so yea. i split afterwards and loaded up on groceries from jasmart. met up with pho and troche later for foodage at the minca ramen factory on 5th. thats some good ramen yo. we noshed, got stuffed, then walked around for a bit. i snuck back to jasmart again to grab a bag of rice too...i didnt grab one before because that shits not light.

k, wtf do i do with these pics? pics from both the nikon and dinky canon...woot.

whups, day late on this post. it was a hectic monday...meh. theres something painful about hearing my art director explain to another (older) coworker about smiley faces and other 'emoticons' (fuck i hate that word). "so, a colon with an end-parenthesis is a smiley. you can also use the equal sign, or a semi-colon for a wink." ouch. hearing explanations like that just makes me shudder. and who the hell still refers to dj's as "disc jockeys"? *shudder*

FRIDAY
met up with m and company friday nite at an open bar at kion, a japanese/peruvian restaurant in my neighborhood. not that we had any of the aforementioned japanese/peruvian fare, but i just thought it was an interesting combination (yes i know about japanese and other various asians in south america). after everybodys stomachs started rumbling for foodage, we migrated over to jennys cafe for munchies. im all for jennys, but i honestly wasnt expecting super foodage from a dessert place...but their beef noodle soup was actually damn good. it couldve done with a tea egg or two, but thats just getting picky. yum yum.

SATURDAY
shoot, weathers all nice and im still having a bike-run drought. fishs new place is taking a bit of time to spruce up, so tentative bike plans for next weekend. fall bikings better anyhoo. i bummed all day saturday, then headed out at night to meet a friend for drinks at white rabbit. its kinda odd. ive been in on-and-off contact with hanalei for...shit...a long time now, but we've never actually met. the internard lets you do crazy shit like that. it was coo to meet tho after this long. we noshed on crepes (quick foodage run), then chilled with her crazy friends...some of whom i actually kinda know. not personally, but have met/been introduced to in the past. small world.

SUNDAY
ha! do i ever do anything sundays?

MONDAY
foodage with jess at eemo. korean outside of k-town...ack! actually, it was pretty good. there seems to be more korean places sprouting up around e.vil. odd.

TUESDAY
lotsa work...yar!
