three-seats wide

there was a morbidly obese woman on my bus this morning taking up 3 seats. the reason i single her out is because as i was making my way to the back of the bus, i caught the tail-end of what sounded like her obnoxiously loud rant against somebody (i couldnt tell who as she was just hollering loudly in all directions). it sounded something along the lines of, "...i paid the bus fare too, i can do whatever the fuck i want..." which i took as the rebuttal to someone who may have criticized her enormous ass for filling 3 seats worth. with that mindset, she could also potentially argue (if she were fat enough) that she could just go ahead and commandeer the entire bus to accomodate her fat-ass-ness. *sigh*

and while we're on the topic of dumb people...theres an old granny from new york whos suing rockstar games over recently surfaced sexual content in gta: san andreas. for those who may be unfamiliar with the news, a hacker had recently hacked and exposed hidden (and inaccessible) mini-games in gta: sa that involved sex. you'll notice right off the bat that the article points out that she bought the game (originally rated: M for players over 17) for her 14 year-old grandson. so lets get this straight, she knowingly buys a MATURE game that involves gangs, violence, car jackings, etc for her 14 year-old grandson, but then gets her diapers in a knot when she finds out theres inaccessible sexual content and sues the game company. killing people is perfectly ok for her 14 year-old grandson, but for fucksakes, no simulated polygonal sex little boy. woman, you hypocritical dipshit. only in a country founded by quakers...

movie news and stuff

ooh, ok...other random movie news for today. because damnit, i dont mull over upcoming movies as much as i used to. didnt i write a lord of the rings post like everyday? gosh, those were the days. they just dont make them like they used to. ok, time to run thru this, post-haste.

ADVENT CHILDREN
lessee lessee...right. theres a new trailer out for final fantasy vii: advent children, and it still looks as coo as ever. its been a pretty long time since this things been in development. theyre sure taking their fucking time with it!!! but its supposed to be out soon. like, er...sometime after today. bah, not like i wouldnt pick it up anyhoo the second it comes out.

SHUPER-MAN
aicn posted a link to a site full of superman returns pictures. looks pretty coo. there are alot of pics of parker poseys character, kitty...and a couple of kevin spacey as the main man himself, lex luthor. word. there are other pics too of things and stuff...yea.

VOLTRON
oh yea, and theyre thinking about making a voltron movie. those crazy fucks. not that i dont mind this, but whats next? a live-action my little pony movie? how about the shirt-tails? mon chi-chi's...word. they can all have kung-fu action thumbs.

d70s

ive been talking about getting a digital slr for a while now, saying ill get it when ive saved enough money, or when the weathers nicer out, or blah blah blah. so i kinda got bored of talking about it and just went and bought one yesterday...woo! well technically "ordered"...so itll probably be another week or so til i get it. but i went and ordered a nikon d70s yesterday along with a starter nikkor 28-200 lens. yay me! it was a tough call between the d70s and the rebel xt. i think i read about a dozen reviews and comparisons before picking the d70s. i fig'd even with the rebels 8 megapixel res (and *cough* cheaper base price), the nikon would still be a better fit for me. so woo for bday presents to myself. no tattoo this year...just a spankin' camera.

transformers and v

TRANSFORMERS
movie news...word. because there will always be movies to distract us from life. lets see...first up is an interesting promo reel they had at the comic-con for the (potentially) upcoming transformers movie. it starts with grown adults geeking over their transformers childhood (fair enough...i was there), then it moves onto steven spielberg talking about the movie, along with some test clips of transformers doing their thing. woo. the movie qualitys not that hot, and mine went poot about 3/4ths of the way thru, but it was coo nonetheless. hopefully a better version will hit the net eventually. oh, and this should come as no surprise at this point, but spielbergs a closet transformers fanboy. i mean, c'mon...growing up in the 80s (wait...thats a little past spielbergs time...) you either played with barbies and my little ponys if you were a girl, or g.i. joes and transformers if you were a guy. i destroyed plenty of transformers and launched plenty of g.i. joes with fireworks...which im sure would all have been worth a small fortune right now if i hadnt destroyed the aforementioned toys. *shrug*

V
no, not the crazy parakeet-eating lizard men from the 80s...alan moores v for vendetta. the new trailers out, and its pretty coo. any movie that convinces natalie portman to shave her head has to be that good. i mean, itd better be, or it might be charged with crimes against humanity for making someone as beautiful as natalie portman shave her head. *shakes fists*.

ok, ive been tired all weekend long, and im putting the blame squarely on last thursday and friday. for a change of pace, we headed to our pennsylvania office thursday morning. nice change of scenery...cars for cows, etc. ok, its not that hick, its just funny to generalize like that. right, whatever. thursday nite we had way too much food at the sarah st. grill, then went bar-hopping and got pretty damn hammered. the friday work day was pretty much a blur as a result...dur. i got back to nyc friday evenin' and met up with anna, sean, and sally for foodage at la palata. my lamb shank tasted funky, but sallys shrimp dish was yum (i stole one...sneaky!) we then caught hustle & flow, which was pretty interesting. not my usual cinema fare, but not bad. saturday was a blur...sunday too. super. hmm, this turned out to be a pretty sad post.

on the up-side, i finally picked up harry potter and the half-blood prince...woo! page 2, i rock! go me.

aeon vs. the smurfs

see, i knew this would happen. i sign onto flickr, and i get another website that distracts me from updating elysium (which i kinda already do), or my main site (ditto), or makes me too lazy to update this one. *sigh* as if i werent too lazy already. im sure the noob factor will wear off shortly. in the meantime, back to randomness.

AEON FLUX
aicn has a coo q&a from comic-con with the cast of aeon flux. they showed clips, talked about the casting, effects, scenes, etc. sounds pretty coo. someone even asked straight-up why martin csokas was cast as trevor goodchild instead of johnny lee miller (whos in the movie also and plays his brother oren). csokas was on the panel btw. another wholly important question asked was in regards to the costumes, which went something like this:

"Theron replied, to the dismay of 80% of the crowd, that the outfits would be much less revealing. "Certain things must be hidden." Crowd, "Awwwww..." Theron says her character is not shy sexually, but just not as butt-ass naked all the time as the original animation. The butt-ass naked part was my elaboration, but she did say she was still very sexual."

sigh...seriously, we dont mind seeing charlize theron wearing dental floss. i would have no objections.

SMURFS
and in other news, theyre making a smurfs movie. yea, wtf.

i think this was one of my lazier weekends in a while. thereve been pretty lazy weekends before this, but i could at least make some excuses how i did this and that instead. but yea...i slept thru most of this weekend. sweet.

i did however get to finally catch war of the worlds friday nite...word. after we noshed at nyonya, some of us were itching to do something, so we went to go see tom cruise get his m.i.b. on. the movie as a whole was pretty damn creepy, which had more to do with the sfx than the actual visuals. i mean the tripods were pretty fucking scary, but it was the mechanical howl they let out that gave you the chills. anyhoo, movie rocked. there are the shortcomings that every other review points out...but those are more the faults of the original source than the movie. so...jah, still good.

satty and sunday were lazy...bed bound etc. satty morning i did run into dora after dropping a package off at the post office. she had her breakfast with her, so we chilled in tompkins square as she ate and sobered up. party animal.

oh yea, and after substantial pressure from min, i signed up for flickr. the 3 set limit for non-pro subscribers is pissing me off too, so i might even subscribe...grr. so i essentially have some 4 separate website now to maintain my photos on. thats like, super.

5-minute post

5-minute post...woo! and that includes the things i wouldve posted about yesterday, but were too busy and tired to. min was headed back to t.o. tuesday nite, so we had a nice last din at danal...french restaurant du jour. we then sat in tompkins square park for a while with our smoothies catching fireflies before i took her up to port authority to catch her bus. then i went home and crashed.

REMAINDERS
journal entry over...onto the random things. there are new pics of aeon flux making their way thru the net...and they look kinda interesting. there are a few that give a coo glimpse into the sleek world of aeon flux, while the rest are kinda staid and uninspiring. ah well...crossing fingers. ign also has their review of charlie and the chocolate factory up already. mikey likes it! wonkas got the blessing of ign now...er, yea. not that i wouldve been dissuaded from seeing it one way or another, but reaffirmations are nice. and btw, the pope doesnt like harry potter...

its nearly lunchtime...so my mind wanders. my new favorite site...ytmnd! and on todays menu...some wow humor, woot! bonus points if you know where the tracks from. if you happen to get said bonus points, you deserve a right smack up the side of your head...and you know why.

early goblet of fire review

a post NOT about eating...woo. tho ill sneak in the fact that we ate ourselves stupid last nite at kang suh in k-town. yea...too much grubbage. mins having last nites din for lunch. anyhoo, aicn has a super-early preview screening review of harry potter and the goblet of fire. the movies still 4 months away, so the reviewed movie was an early rough cut, missing alot of the cg. but even without the fx, the reviewer capone could see that the movie was going to shine. azkaban may still be the most stylistic of the potter movies, but goblet may turn out to be the most refined and mature of the series. woo, cant wait.

FRIDAY
whew long week, and i need to get my drink on. so i met up with m and her friend for some last minute happy hour lovin' at happy ending. free vodka drinks, wooha! i wonder if the basement always smelled that dank...hmm. i got the midnight munchies after two rounds, so we headed to ñ afterwards for sangria and a nice side of chorizos. yummy yum.

SATURDAY
i didnt crawl out of bed til noonish, not that it mattered much since i basically bummed most of the day away...woo. min came back from visiting her relatives in jersey, so we went to go meet m and crew at kush. min technically doesnt drink, so the bartender made her this coo milk tea blend that was pretty damn good. the rest of us had a bottle of riesling and a plate of fruits and cheeses. theres some damn nasty cheeses out there in the world...*shudder*. after heading back to my apt, we popped in my sassy girl...woo classic. min bawled at every other scene tho...no more romance comedies for her.

SUNDAY
my sis called sunday morning to tell me that she was in chinatown. whazza? my sis never comes into the city...woo for surprises (it was daves idea). so me and min trotted down to chinatown to meet my sis, who had for some weird reason made her way into mott street opticals after waiting for us to get down there. by the time we got there, my sis was already getting an eye exam...wtf. so after she gets her check-up and some new contacts, she mentions that they had run into some old friends of theirs in chinatown by chance...dave(#2...who actually went to our hs) and christina. so we all decide to grab lunchies together at xo...woo random. the food was so-so, but it was an interesting lunch anyhoo for the sheer fact that it was completely random. we all split off after lunch, since min was headed to a bike tour and my sis and her bf wanted to bum around chinatown before meeting up with me again. i tune and adjust my old warp so min can ride it, she heads off, and my sis makes her way up to my apt...for the first time...finally...after 2 years of living here. grrr. we chill out for a while, then start making our way over to jamba juice in union square since dave was getting a jamba craving. after jamba, we grab an early din at blue 9 (any excuse to get burgers there...yum) and they head off back to jersey. min gets back a bit later, and we chill out to another asian cinema classic...ping pong. word.

is this week almost over?

swoon exhibit

i was riding the F train home yesterday per usual, and noticed this guy changing cars. it briefly flashed in my mind that the F train doors were usually locked, but this guy opened up the door on his side and passed thru to the exterior landing. he was about to open up the door to my car when he noticed that it wouldnt budge...aka it was locked. so he quickly turns around to try and catch the closing door behind him, but it shut before he could. he then notices that that door now wouldnt open either...ack. being stuck between cars on a subway isnt exactly something id personally want to experience. as i got off at the broadway/lafayette stop, i notified the conductor, but thought i saw the guy jumping out onto the platform as i walked off. *shrug*...just thought id mention that.

min came down from toronto to visit for the weekend, and i got off at the broadway/lafayette stop because we were actually meeting up to catch the swoon exhibit opening down at the deitch gallery. the entire block was already filled with people by the time we got there, but we still got a chance to make our way thru the exhibit. coo stuff. we met up with some friends of mins outside, and one even introduced us to swoon...which was pretty coo. after that, we migrated up to st. marks to grab foodies at go, then headed back to my apt to bum in my room watching il mare and stereo future. yay for early weekends!

random note: you know...i swear i never even noticed this til i read this ny times article. i never noticed that the 1971 willy wonka movie was actually called willy wonka and the chocolate factory, as opposed to the actual book name, charlie and the chocolate factory. craziness. fyi, the new tim burton movie uses the correct name. woot.

london wins, nyc loses

ah...as an addendum (and a personal notation), nyc lost the bid for the 2012 olympics. poosticks. london went on to win the bid, which was a bit of a surprise too. couldve sworn paris had it locked down. half of me is relieved that nyc wouldnt be subjected to the crazy shit that would accompany the olympics (assuming that im even in nyc seven years from now), while the other half of me is kind of disappointed that thom maynes olympic village wont be built. ah well.

troy=no good

i never did get a chance to see troy when it first hit the movie theaters. so i finally got a chance to watch it last nite on hbo. yea, it wasnt that good. and thats movie minutes with halo. join us again next week for half-assed reviews written in under...lessee...a minute! word.

big flowery gun

ooh looky, a new pic of the bfg from the forthcoming crap-fest that will be doom. the "big fucking gun" as it is.....is actually kinda small dont'cha think? i never imagined it to be some sissy little rifle gun. i was thinking more along the lines of the mechanical-arm reinforced smartguns of aliens, or the minigun carried by blaine in predator (in size anyway). whatever, i still smell poop.

fourth of july

FRIDAY
cant remember. wait, i got it. foodage with sally, anna, sean, and eugene in k-town. good foodage...then chilled in the plaza in front of the bank with snackage.

SATURDAY
met up with fish to try out one of his new trails. we hit up the ramapo park, a huge wooded area near ringwood. the trails werent too well marked, but there were some pretty coo one-tracks. a ways into the trails, we eyed this one jump...a huge rock with some smaller stones as a ramp-up. i fig'd hey, looks fun...ill go first. so i speed towards the jump, clear it, find out too late that there were more rocks past the jump (yay for not scouting!), smash my front tire against one of them, and go flying. free flying lessons, hooray! i land on my palms and knees pretty hard, and i immediately hear that shitty seeping noise from my front tires. fucker, a flat...and neither of us have a spare. and besides that, my right knee ended up hitting the ground pretty hard, and was getting pretty tender. so we walk my bike back to fishs car to swap out the tube. the hole in my tube was pretty big...it actually punctured straight thru. word. i swap tubes, prep up, and we're ready to ride out when my right knee starts throbbing. so i look down and notice that theres a spanky new weird lump on my knee. ah fuck...rides over. the funky lump looked so bad that we headed to st. clares hospital to get it checked out. i havent been to a hospital since i was born...hospitalized drunken unconscious friends not withstanding. they x-rayed my knee and determined that it was alot of fluid and tissue, but that it wasnt too bad and would probably subside by itself eventually. so they wrapped it up, gave me a tetanus shot (damnit, its still sore), and sent me on my way. ill live...hooray!

we grabbed seafood in denville, caught some coffee and chess at starbucks, and watched the town fireworks. ah nice. 3 games...1 win, 1 draw (i think i wouldve won, but we fugged a check near the end), and lost the last game.

SUNDAY
bummed away most of the day. met sally for foodage at resto leon, then met up with m and chris for the motherfucker party at spirit. good musics coo, but i really just wanted to check out spirit...which i hadnt been to since twilo shut down and was bought out by spirit. the space was still pretty coo, music was so-so, and the hipsters populating the dance floor made for fun sight-seeing. after the first set by theo and the skyscrapers ended and the topless go-go dancers came out, i got sleepy and ditched out early.

MONDAY
thats right now...happy fourth of july! hooray!

*fireworks!*
*stray firework!*
*hair catches fire!*
*wah, runs around frantically!*

[ audio selection | gorillaz - feel good inc ]

it took me a while before i recognized this track from the (relatively) new apple ipod commercials. *sigh*...gorillaz, why? at least they dont recite fucked up spanish. uno, dos, tres, catorce! not much to talk about for this upcoming 4th of july weekend. more sleeping i suppose. ok, ill try and make plans too...who wants to bbq??

DONT DRINK THE KOOL-AID
and in completely unrelated news, reading this just blew my mind. the master of shitpoo cinema, uwe boll, will be basing his next video-game-to-shitty-movie adaption on the computer game dungeon siege. thats fine and dandy, something im unfamiliar with that he can poo all over if he wants. heres the crazy part tho. boll's managed to cast the following people...jason stratham (transporter), ron perlman (hellboy), matthew lillard (scooby-doo), burt reynolds (dukes of hazzard), john-rhys davies (lotr), and leelee sobieski (glass house). seriouly, wtf? did they all collectively drink the kool-aid? how someone like uwe boll can manage to keep making movies...and now collect a cast like this, just completely escapes me. anyhoo, the movie adapations fairly standard sword and sorcery blah blah blah. farmer (stratham) has to save his family from the evil wizard, lord cheesebuttocks, who holds the magical crystal of foshizzle that lets him roll consistent 20's on his 20-sided dice. ftw!
