word, dig my new workstation...dual monitor action yo with the new g5.

and technically no, the third monitor on the far left (its actually an emac) isnt part of my workstation. its actually the computer i was using before my g5 arrived, and is currently serving as our digital jukebox while pats off treking thru africa (it was meant to be his new word processor) and til we get our creature stereo system for my g5.

todays bettys last day in america, so heres one last shoutout to the bo-ra before she flies off to the land of bi bim bap and jap chae. i actually took this pic of her outside of rand hall back in 2000 before i even knew her. it was a bit rainy out that day, and i just thought it was a coo pic. it wasnt later til we hung out and i found how much she rocked. now bettys heading off to kick the shit out of korea.

betty, keep rockin'. and remember...bukkake.

stardust 2004

yo, new stardust site rockin' a new demo reel. except for the shit that were those fanta commercials (it pains me to forgive them for that), their motion graphics are super swish and their demo reels always rock. their old demo reel was sporting lhb's "no transmission" and their new ones pimping old school hall and oates...word.

a weird sidenote, i posted about their old demo reel before back in july of 2003, except there seems to be an empty spot on july 15th where the post was supposed to be. wtf. i know it used to be there because the accompanying image is still on the server. blah...there are always a few casualties of server jumps (before i learned how to export/import databases). i wonder if im missing any other posts...

[ audio selection | greenday - pulling teeth ]

so i havent posted since thursday...oops. its not from a lack of fun shit or anything...just really havent had the time to. which is good, right? whatev. backtracking to thursday, which was the spiewak and resfest party at the lansky lounge in les. it was a bit sucky tho, considering that when i met ___ to head into the party, there was a line outside that wrapped around to delancey. bugger that. dora and company showed up too, and we waited in line a bit before deciding to head off to pianos instead. pianos was pretty chill, if not a little loud. other party people showed up too to join us, tho after an hour or so most of the group headed back to check out the lansky lounge again. me and ___ decided to skip out for crepes on ludlow instead, where we snacked on a nutella and strawberries crepe, then a spinach and feta one as a follow-up...yum.

FRIDAY
friday was me-day yo. i stayed in.

SATURDAY
den mother alice woke my ass up satty morning for dim sum at grand harmony with the crew. her mandarin wasnt getting thru to some of the cantonese wait staff...but jj was with us, so we were rockin' the cantonese too. i walked around soho after dim sum with sally, and actually ran into a large contingent of high school friends roaming broadway. i was like...shit, that girl over there looks like suzie...and christine too...and jaime...and amy...and irene. small world yo. they were actually in the city to take a friend around for her bachelorette weekend.

"who?"
"maureen."
"shit, really?"
"yea, shes right here..."
"....eh? holy shit!"

i hadnt seen maureen since high school...and didnt even recognize her. it was def coo to see them all again, but i still couldnt wrap my head around the fact that maureen was getting married...eek!

bo-ras about to leave our sorry asses for korea, so m planned a coo surprise drinky drink for her satty nite. she took her to din at highline thai with her bro and another friend, while the rest of us waited downstairs in the bar. so when they finished din, m shuttled her downstairs to the bar.

"lemme just grab a smoke outside..."
"no, no smoke. lets go drink downstairs."
"just a smoke yo."
"downstairs bizatch!"

so when she came downstairs, she coincidentally ran into our big crew of bo-ra lovers. holy shit, word! the whole crew turned out, and we drank and took rounds of pics with betty. after an hour or so, we headed out and over to west for more drinks. the place was a little weird (it was the ground floor of a modern apartment building), but chill. after having more drinks, a few of us were craving sul long tang from gam mee ok. like harold and kumar and white castle, except korean style. actually, i guess harold was korean, so that was already "korean style"...whatev. we headed over to the west side highway to grab a taxi. jjs going, "dont grab a taxi from the west side yo..." and we're like whatev. so betty waves one down, it pulls up, and 5 seconds later (important detail, so pay attention) we hear "THUNK THUNK!". fucking two cars simultaneously rear-ended the taxi and the car that rear-ended the taxi. holy shit...we turned tail and walked the other direction really really fast. yea we felt bad for the taxi driver, but we just wanted foodage and it was late and half of us were near trashed. we waved down another set of taxis and headed over to k-town...this time with no unexpected collisions. we just ate our sul long tang and were happy.

SUNDAY
anna organized a little dessert thang at her apartment for betty sundy nite. so we all showed up with mad desserts in hand. there were brownies, cupcakes, two panya cakes (including a green tea tiramisu i brought), and various other munchies. we drank sangria, ate, and chilled out on the fire escape overlooking st. marks. bettys fucking leaving us yo...i think im gonna cry.

prologue: yea, more geeking today...word. i ran to four...yea, four stores looking for warhammer 40k: dawn of war after work yesterday. i swear, who are these stores buyers? hi, id like to stock my store with...hmm...5 copies. yea, that should be adequate. you fuck, i hate you.

anyhoo, the game rocks. im still trying to fig out how to input custom banners and badges. otherwise my space marine chapter, the orichalcyon: divine forge, are oot and aboot and kicking ass. still wish tho that i could somehow customize the game with my specialized space marine chapter, the seraphim (read: females in space marine armour).

the frying pan

i met up with ___ last nite for din at oh! taisho, which was a little more chill than last friday. the din was an appetizer of sorts for the spiewak party at the frying pan later that nite, but ___ had to opt out at the last sec. so after i saw her off, i taxi'd over to the chelsea piers to look for the party, which was tucked just a little north of the basketball complex. i swear all the times i biked up and down the west side highway, id never even noticed that place before. i actually had to call m a few times just to get my bearings.

the party was pretty coo. not many people, but the dj was rockin' it with his dual powerbooks and trippy visuals. and the place itself...word, so coo yet creepy. the spiewak party was being held on the docks, but the other half of the frying pan was actually an old docked ship which you could head into. the ship had supposedly sunk, and was eventually raised...so the interiors were all decayed and rusted. with the ship rocking in the water, and the hanging lights casting shadows as they swung back and forth, it could get pretty creepy at times.

the party never really picked up, but we lounged around anyway.

i havent really covered the upcoming fantastic four movie much, but i thought id post this anyhoo, since its so coo. new pictures were posted on the web today featuring the fantastic four in uniform. ioan gruffudd as mr. fantastic, jessica alba as the invisible woman, chris evans as the human torch, and michael chiklis as the thing...coo shit.

STAR WARS TRILOGY
there are two things worth noting about tomorrow. one, the star wars trilogy box set (the original trilogy that is) finally gets released yo. motherfucking badass...its been years coming. ign has a review of the box set, so take a look before your childhood resumes to be pooped on by the release of star wars eps 3: i make mucho mucho money.

DAWN OF WAR
the second thing worth noting is that the ridiculously coo warhammer 40k: dawn of war comes out tomorrow. ive been thumping the demo for the last few weeks and im ready to get my full war on. ive got 5 space marine chapters, replete with insignias and banners, ready to go fuck shit up. hail to the emperor.

wrestlemania and lychee smoothies

[ audio selection | weezer - the world has turned ]

picture madness yo! but thats further down. you get to go thru this rambling text before then...fun shit! i finally met up with ____ friday nite and took her oot and aboot the town. derricks photo show, ryuichi sakamoto at the soho grand (didnt stay around), dinner at highline thai, a nice walk along the hudson river park, and drinks at angels share...quite a nice nite. ok, thats all im writing. moving on...

WRESTLEMANIA
the crump-meister came to stay with me and fonz satty, so that was coo. fonz and crump headed out to see sky captain at nite without me (i was waiting to see it with fish), so i met up with marisol for din. we wandered around greenwich before deciding on ciao stella. neither of us had been before, but the dishes we ordered were good, and the bruschetta we had as an appetizer was especially good...yum. after din we headed to baggots inn (sp?) and met up with mink and bryant to catch chris do his drum thang with...um, coppersonic was it? the speakers were conveniently aimed right at our ears, so that was nice of them. i also mistook the drink tickets chris gave us (wrestlemania stick-on tattoos) for...well...wrestlemania stick-on tattoos.

h > "dude...look at my rockin' wrestlemania tattoo! argh!!!"
m > "you dumbass! thats a drink ticket!"
h > "eh? really?"

rock on. after chris' set ended and the next band started blasting hipster country at us, we migrated to scratcher. more drinks, etc, etc...

SUNDY CHILLING
dude, the weather rocked on sundy. i dont know about you, but i luv this breezy weather. tho ive been told that it will slip back into summer mode next week...poo that. i chilled around my apartment most of sundy afternoon. betty rang in the evening, so i met up with her and dora at via della pace on 7th st. we shared a salami and cheese sampler, a mozzarella and tomato salad, and a risotto dish between the three of us...so good. we started talking about the master sifu dumpling maker who opened the dumpling man on st. marks, and how they had taiwanese shaved ice. so we got a bit of a craving and headed over after we finished our food. but by the time we got there and saw the picture of the ginormous bowl of shaved ice on the menu, we changed our minds and went to jenny's cafe instead, where we chilled out on apple green tea and a lychee smoothie. so smooooth...

bugger fuck shit ass...i lost a bet with my art director today. before i go into what bet i lost, a bit of a prologue. a few weeks ago, i quipped how all asians really do look the same (when ur drunk). and my art director (whos hapa) claimed she had a good eye for discerning the nationalities of asians. so i sent her over to all look same to test her mettle. after burning thru the ridiculously hard test, she ends up scoring 7 out of 20...ha! and ironically enough, another dude (non-asian) took the test and outscored both of us with a 9 out of 20 (i had scored a 7 too). buggers. the topic comes up again today somehow, and my art director claimed that pat the top dude was pretty good at picking out asian nationalities. im going, "dude...no way." so off he goes to take the all look same test, while me and my art director placed a bet. i wagered fries from superfine that he wouldnt score higher than a 7, and my art director said hed score higher. pat guesses his way thru the test and ends up with a 9 out of 20...fuck. the two non-asians outscored the one and a half asians in the studio...damnit. we'll be having fries from superfine tomorrow, my treat. yay.

elder scrolls iv

word, big news for morrowind fans out there. ign reported today that bethesda softworks officially confirmed the development of elder scrolls iv: oblivion. this is rockin' news, as elder scrolls iii: morrowind was arguably one of the finest rpgs, ever. the realm of morrowind was ridiculously expansive (morrowind was just an island. it wasnt even the frickin' main continent), and the amount of detail which went into everything in the game...races, cultures, history (you cant even imagine the depth), religions, and social structures was absolutely staggering. im not usually the hardcore gamer (anymore anyhoo), but morrowind had me up for months. so while doom 3 didnt necessarily get me to upgrade my system, something like elder scrolls iv just might.

gr34 weekend

[ audio selection | soundgarden - the day i tried to live ]

you dont suppose im coming down with something, do you? my whole body feels a little achey. not so much in the overworked sense, but more in the old and tired way...eek. hopefully its just the weather.

it was rockin' outside friday afternoon, and none of us at work could really stand to be indoors. so the crew grabbed two grimaldi's pizzas and headed to the dumbo waterside for lunch. i was a bad boy and scarfed down four slices...bad bad bad. but damnit was the pizza excellent. after work, we grabbed a few drinks at superfine, and then i headed off to meet marisol and jess for din at oh! taisho. mentai chazuke, okonomiyaki, and...a donburi was it? it was all good. we headed down to verlaine after din to meet up with anna and sean and made the most of the happy hour drinks. and when i say "made the most of it", i mean that i spilled drink after drink on jess and got her a new one each time. yea, that was super.

GR34
after liquoring up enough, we migrated over to the gr34 party at white rabbit. the party was pretty coo, tho the venue was smaller than the past couple gr parties held at luke+leroy. and even tho white rabbit was pretty swishy, i think im gonna miss the airline stylings of idlewild. betty joined in later...and as we were chilling outside, dj girl saw me and waved hi. i introduced betty and tried to chat, but that went nowhere. "well she wasnt very nice." "yea, thats why i still havent gotten my mix cd..."

MINEOLA
satty afternoon was sort of a client meeting out in long island. buns photography partner wanted me to take a look at their website, so i headed out to mineola along the lirr to talk with them. after talking shop for an hour or so and getting a yum lunch out of it, bun drove me back to the train station, except she didnt really know where it was. after driving around in circles (literally) for a while, we decided to hang at a mall that we passed by. we mallratted around, ate wendys, and then hopped back into her car and headed in the general direction of "west"...eventually dropping me off at a train station in queens. whew. by the time i got back to my apartment, i was feeling poo'd out, and missed a bday house party i was supposed to go to when i passed out on my bed by 11. goddamnit.

sunday was a bore, btw.

uninformative survey

pooped, tired, still cooking din at 10:30 at nite, and was about to do a survey from bo-rages, but shit did it take forever...so i just erased it. today was our field trip to our production plant and warehouse in pennsylvania. we had two meetings, ate local food at a place called da vinci's, and just watched as it poured outside, then stopped, then poured, then the sun came out, then poured, etc...fun shit! half the crew headed off to liquor up around town afterwards, while the rest of us piled into a car and slowly made our way back to the eastern seaboard. lucky for us, there were a jillion accidents all along the major routes eastwards. i finally made it back to my apartment at 9pm, gymy-gymed, showered, and now making some lazy japanese pasta with mentaiko...word.

two hour commute

[ audio selection | ken ishii - echo exit (boom boom satellites mix) ]

to hurricane frances and all the shit it poured on the city, i give you the vicious look of dirtiness. you suck. i did my usual routine this morning...strolled down 1st ave, grabbed an iced mocha from le kiosk, and headed into the subway station. except this morning the trains were dead, according to the muffled sounds of the station clerk. *mmhmm hmm mm no F trains mrmhm* so i headed back up to the street level and looked for a taxi along 2nd ave. no luck. i strolled north a bit...still none. so i walked over to broadway...shitcock. after half an hour of aimless wandering, i spotted a taxi pulling over and ran straight for it. as i get in and tell the taxi to head to dumbo, he tells me that the bridges are currently closed. balls. so after that, i walked another 15 minutes home, grabbed my bike, and headed over the manhattan bridge. i usually get in by 8:30...and got in today at 10:30. blah.

anyhoo, all (mebbe most) was forgiven when i met up with min and toshiko for din at soba-ya. i meet min maybe once a year (she claims at the least twice a year), so its always fun. mins planning on travelling to aussie-land soon for a year to work, so this might be one of the last times ill see her in a while. we ordered seasoned squid and little tofu wrapped in dried bean curd, bowls of soba for everyone, and finished with green tea jelly and red bean with sweetened jelly...yum. we then spent a good ten minutes after leaving soba-ya crawling around 9th st next to k-mart looking for an earring min dropped (toshiko eventually found it). fun shit.

tomorrow is a class field trip to the boondocks of pennsylvania...huzzah! and there might be a chance of an overnite stay in the middle of nowhere...weee!

modern marvels

the history channels modern marvels has been running an interesting series of episodes that shows how modern skyscrapers are built from the ground up. whats interesting (to me anyway) is that they chose the caltran building by morphosis to document from conception to completion. its a coo look into how a building goes up. not just the initial architectural concept and design, but also the contracting, project management, construction, installation, etc. so not only do you get to see thom mayne win the competition and lead the design of the building, but you also get to watch as the structure, floor plates, and facades all go up. an added bonus is a peek at the real shit that goes down in a project, such as budget woes, schedule delays, and cash flow problems (too fucking common).

its only been three weeks since i left the architectural field (as periphery as i was) and im already getting nostalgic. the episodes are still running, so catch an episode or two to get a coo peek at the real world of architecture behind the thick-rimmed glasses and black turtlenecks.

dream recollections

shit...i shouldve written this entry earlier. i had a really odd dream the other nite, but the words i scribbled down to remind myself of the details dont seem to make much sense now. so ive since forgotten most of the details, but the main thing that got me to jot down the notes in the first place was that in my dream, as i was walking by this girl, i recognized her from a dream i had years ago. i even noted to myself (in the dream) how she'd since grown up...weird. because i specifically recognized her (within my dream from another dream), i offered her a ride to the post office (according to my notes). and when i woke up, i actually recollected to myself which specific dream i remembered her from, and then wondered how odd it was that even characters in my dreams were prone to grow old over time in an almost parallel existence.

labor day weekend

[ audio selection | natural born chillers - rock the funky beat ]

gosh thats a mid/late-90s dnb classic. my art director and i got the munchies for taiwanese food friday afternoon, so we convinced the top dude to have lunch in chinatown. we cabbed it over to the excellent pork chop house on doyers, where we had beef noodles, pork chop rice, and then finished off with shaved ice for each of us...yum. after migrating to winnies afterwards for some drinks, i bailed early to head back to jersey to hunt down an '04 specialized enduro comp. fish had been scoping out a couple bike shops, and it turns out that aside from the comp we'd seen at martys, all others in the area were large frames...blah. so since martys had closed early for the day, we just headed off for munchies and chess at paneras. the first game i played black and played a back-and-forth pawn trade til i lost. damnit. we finished up our food and migrated to starbucks for the second game. i attemped to use fishs black defensive tactics against him, but miscalculated a vital move, lost alot of pieces, and just conceded. damnit. ok, so for the third game, i called to play white. it was a pretty calm game at first, with both sides jockeying for area control. nobody was dying, so i told fish i was prepping for a delayed blitzkrieg, and that he should watch his ass. fish thought i was joking...so after a few more moves, i let loose a massive offensive that took down nearly all his attackers and opened up avenues of attack for my queen. after pushing my knights forward to provide support, i managed to fork his king...alongside his queen (word!). so after the queen went poot, i went on to win the game, and we called it a night as so i didnt push my luck.

MAJESTIC
satty afternoon was a bit of a delayed bday lunch with the fam. my sis and her bf came up, and we all headed to hunan cottage (we just refer to it as the "panda house" now) for yum lunch. when we got there tho, the place was packed. bastard families. so as a backup, we headed to the majestic buffet for buttloads of food. the crawfish wasnt as good that time, but everything else was yum. we were going to hit up willowbrook afterwards, but fish got out of work and gave me a call. so we met up and headed straight to martys to seal the deal on my enduro comp. i got the bike, as well as odi grips (which they popped on for me) and a new pump as well (my old was shraeder only). and after changing into my biking gear and chatting with marty for a bit, we headed off to the rockin' trails of ringwood to test out my enduro and fishs newly installed black rwtd fork. the enduro was ridiculously lighter than my old warp, and none of the climbs seemed as painful as they shouldve been. ringwood itself was pretty sprawling, and had alot of rockin' trails...as well as a botanical garden. so pretty. we got there later than we wanted to, so we didnt get to check out some of the crazier drops. at one five-way trail intersection near the end of our ride, we saw this ridiculously massive drop above us. we were at the bottom of the drop, so didnt get a chance to try it out...poo.

DIRTY CHESS BEATINGS
after heading out of ringwood, we grabbed food along rt 17 (forgot the name), and then found a starbucks for round two of weekend chessing. even tho i was playing black, i felt like playing an aggressive game. so i pushed my queen forward early and started to dismantle his queens side. with his king retreating, i pushed forward more pieces and brought up my rooks. i even sacrificed some pieces to get a position advantage, and continued to close around his king until checkmate. wooha! the second game was similar, except i got in another king/queen fork and then picked off his pieces one by one til i won...yay! it was a good weekend for chess.

REMAINDERS
watched some azumanga, started on maureen dowd's bushworld...a bday present from fish, beer and wings at croxleys with a friend+crowd visiting nyc, and a relaxing bike ride around manhattan with fonz.

enduuuuuuro yo

new enduro comp, word! and at a rockin' deal, i just had to...with word that the new enduros were going to be an ass and a half. i talked with marty from martys reliable cycle (free plug!) however and he showed me the 2005 specialized catalog they just got in. he pointed out that the two lower level enduros...the enduro and enduro comp, still used the old (coo) frame, while the two uppers...the expert and pro, as well as the s-works and new enduro sx class, would be sporting the new frame configurations. whatev, they had silver lined up for the '05 enduro comp, so i prefer to rock the matte blue of the '04. word.

theres something up with my office. for some odd reason it makes me really groggy. not a boredom groggy, or lazy groggy...but an uncontrollable heavy eye-lids must find a bed groggy. its odd...one of the offices i was in at my old job was the same way. one second im diligently photoshop-whoring away, and the next im kissing my mouse pad. erk.

anyhoo, i had din last nite with jess. we hit up go, which is still my perennial fav even tho i dont go with as much frequency as i used to. jess was still sick, and made it a point to cough in my direction every 5 minutes...claiming it was the same sickness i had given her months ago. i mentioned that if this were true, then i probably wouldnt worry much since i cant catch my own sickness. word.

labor days coming up, and i havent really given much thought to what ill be doing this weekend. theres the usual biking/coffee/chess, or maybe a picnic, or maybe hit the museums, or a show or party, or maybe take a train out to somewhere far. last years labor day weekend hilight was bowling at bowlmor...so i think i can do better this year.
